Let’s start with the following two quotes:
“Money is a terrible master but an excellent servant.” Phineas Taylor Barnum
A person either disciplines his finances or his finances disciplines him. ~Orrin Woodward
The only way you’ll ever be a badass at money is when you finally decide to be in charge of your finances instead of allowing your finances to be in charge of you.
You’re likely to allow money to run your life. Money is master over most people.
The more you learn, the more you earn.
However, most people do not have the financial discipline or the willpower to increase their financial literacy and how effectively they manage their finances.
It has proven true in my life many times, so I’m consistently reading personal finance books to expand my knowledge.
If you historically suck ass at money, this is your time to shift the narrative.
Here’s how to become a badass at money:
1. Consistently invest in your financial education.
2. Learn from those who have and maintain high net worth.
3. Elevate your mindset and expose yourself to financially successful environments and relationships.
4. Live within your means.
5. Consistently invest. The golden rule is 10% or more of your income.
6. Consistently increase your income, but do not nullify it with lifestyle creep.
7. Stop buying stupid stuff.
8. Be intentional with your purchases and mitigate impulsive buys.
9. Track your income and spending. Make it a habit to come out positive.
10. Dedicate continuous time to studying the game of money.
11. Maintain an abundance mindset; lack doesn’t exist. Money is and will always be a renewable resource.
Numbers one and ten are the same because there is no telling how much you could benefit from investing in your financial education.
Education
I didn’t come from a wealthy family, and my parents came from fragile economic circumstances and poverty.
However, I started reading personal finance and personal development books during childhood, which helped me reach the levels I’m at today.
Mentors
Many of my mentors are authors of the books I read.
But I’ve also had many in-person mentors who continue to help me achieve financial success.
Mindset
I always had money. I never desired to be broke or financially dependent on others.
If I was ever in a bind, I took action to shift the situation immediately.
My mindset was strong, abundant, and focused on prosperity.
Lack doesn’t exist.
Lifestyle
I always chose to be the person who could buy the car but didn’t instead of the person who did buy the luxury car and went into debt to obtain it.
Most people live above their means, so they will never be a badass at money.
Invest
I started investing when I was 14, which helped me learn the value of compound interest.
I never stopped investing.
It’s something you must do to increase and grow your net worth.
Income
You can become wealthy and financially successful by never increasing your income if you have a robust financial strategy that includes investing and living below your means.
But doing those two things, on top of increasing your income, helps expedite your progress.
These six things will help you be a badass at money.
But on top of these six things, you need to ensure your mind is in the right place, which means you might have to eliminate some old and limiting beliefs.
Practice, review, and study the following affirmations to help you shift your mindset and relationship with money.
