“Don’t be afraid to express who you are and what you value. One of your goals in life should be to be accepted or rejected for who you truly are.” — Steven Carter
“A voice that lives deep inside of you will always remind you exactly who you are […].” — Steven Carter
One of the most attractive traits a person can have is when they stay true to themselves. In this day and age, there are many possible influences on the way we act, what we desire, how we communicate, and how we present ourselves to others; there are so many influences that one could wonder if who they are and what they want to do with their life is inspired by another influence on an unconscious level.
Not everyone has the same dreams, goals, or ambitions; everyone has unique desires which they can accomplish in their own way. When you conduct your life according to how you want to conduct it, you will live a much happier, content, and fulfilling life. Living your life according to someone else’s standards and preferences can be tiring, stressful, and incomplete. The reason why this chapter is in this book is because many people get easily caught up following the crowd, and in the midst of following the crowd they lose themselves and subject themselves to a life of conformity. Live your life for you. Do the things you want. Dream about the things you want to dream about. Believe and support the causes that stir the fire in your heart and soul. Create goals to accomplish that you have a burning desire for. Engage in activities that you want to engage in. So many people spend a majority of their time doing things they have no desire to do, and they wonder why they so often feel unhappy and incomplete. We are the drivers of our life. Hence, we should only go to places where we want to go, and let only passengers we truly love and care about ride with us on our life journeys. The passengers that ride with you should be people that support you and love you for who you truly are and not for what you can do for them; the places you go are the goals, dreams, and desires that you plan to accomplish, experience, and fulfill. When you surround yourself with people that truly care about you and support your dreams, you will have more momentum to keep going after the things you want because no one in your close circle will try to refute or discourage you from being yourself or going after your dreams; instead, they will encourage you, accept you, and be supportive of you, which gives you even more positive energy to continue following your dreams. The way you can truly know if someone is worth being a passenger in your life is to be yourself.
We only have so much time on this earth so we might as well enjoy it being who we are, doing what we love, and being around people that we enjoy being around. The way you can be truly happy, satisfied, and content with life is to be yourself. The only thing you have to lose from being yourself is the acceptance of the wrong people. Be yourself starting right now. Decide today what you want to do with your life. Decide today what makes you happy. Decide today who your real friends are. Decide today what your personal dreams are (not anyone else’s). Decide today what you want to accomplish before leaving this earth. Decide today who you are and who you want to be. Decide today that you are going to be yourself and live your life according to your tastes, your preferences, your likes, your dislikes, your passions, your wants, your desires, your goals, and your dreams. At the end of the day, you are the one who must live with the decisions you make on a day-to-day basis. So, if you decide to live and follow the dreams of someone else, or if you decide that you are going to act like someone who you are not, you are stating that you do not value your own dreams, and you do not value who you genuinely are. Every day we have a choice to make: we can express to the world who we truly are or we can deny the world the beautiful expression of who we truly are. Take a step today to live a more genuine life, and take another step today to construct your life the way you want it to be, and finally take one last step today to ensure you are going after your dreams and not someone else’s. Remember that you are important, and remember that you are the driver of your life. Life is much more enjoyable and enriching when we do the things that express who we truly are. Be yourself.
