I used to believe, “You’re the average of the five people around you.”
But I’ve proved this statement to be false many times over.
I’m Not The Average Of My Friends
Many of the friends I’ve been around through the years are not like me, and I’m okay with it.
Some of them are more successful, and others are less successful. And I don’t try to change them or their habits.
I accept them as they are.
However, I still maintain a commitment to personal development and elevation.
If you truly want to succeed, flourish, and elevate your life, you won’t allow your surroundings or people to impede your progress.
Even in romantic relationships, if my partners don’t share the same level of thinking, I stay committed to self-elevation no matter what.
Still, Be Selective About People And Surroundings
Can our surroundings and the people we spend time with slow down our progress? Oh yeah.
I’m highly selective about who I spend my time around.
If a person has negative thinking patterns or a specific set of surroundings that don’t fit my level of thinking and vibration, I won’t stay around for too long because it’s not enjoyable.
But I have created an immunity of sorts, which has helped me be able to vibe with all types of people WITHOUT becoming them.
Become Immune To External Variables
For those more sensitive, there are circumstances where it will be entirely unavoidable to refrain from unhealthy surroundings and people.
Let’s say you’re stuck in an environment filled with negativity or around severely negative or sad people.
No fret.
Accept people and your surroundings. But invest a sharp focus on who you desire to be, and send positive energy to your surroundings and those around you.
Practice becoming less sensitive to people and circumstances that differ from your ideal vibration, thoughts, habits, and lifestyle.
This is called emotional regulation and being inner-directed (not allowing external sources to have such a high level of influence on you).
Most people are outer-directed, allowing circumstances and people to easily affect their thoughts, feelings, and day.
Ever had something simple or significant happen, and it completely f*cked your day? This is called being outer-directed, which is code for YOU’RE-NOT-IN-CONTROL-OF-YOUR-LIFE. You’re like a puppet allowing anyone to pull your strings.
Whatever you do, don’t give in to your surroundings. Set firm boundaries, and commit to making progress on yourself by any means necessary.
We have absolute control over ourselves.
Make An Effort To Elevate Your People
It does help to surround yourself with elevating people. The more you surround yourself with, the faster your development.
Recently two people recommended two pivotal books to me; it reminded me of how refreshing it is to have people who challenge you and help you grow.
However, you can still achieve significant results if you’re committed to personal development and learning.
I’ve frequently been surrounded by people who were nothing like me. Yet, I still found a way to maintain my standards and continue elevating my thinking.
Leaders don’t follow the masses. They lead.
This was a great read on Emotional regulation. I concur.
Accept people and your surroundings. But invest a sharp focus on who you desire to be, and send positive energy to your surroundings and those around you. 👍
That’s True!
