Stay on the move — It’s easy to stay stuck in the bed, your favorite chair, or your home when you’re feeling depressed. The best thing to do is to stay on the move. Get out of your house, get out of your bed, get out of the chair, and stand up. Take a walk, clean up your living space, work on some goals, chat with a friend, or hang out with some fun people. Just stay moving. You learn how to tackle depression best when you’re in positive spirits.
Gratitude — If I’m feeling low, it usually means I have lost perspective, and I’m not in the gratitude zone. Because as soon as I start mentioning things, people, and blessings to be grateful for, I snap out of any low mood asap. What are you grateful for? Can you walk, see, hear, taste, touch, or smell? Do you have any family and friends you can rely on? Do you have income? Do you have food and water to consume today? Did someone smile at you or say hi to you today? Did you wake up today? Do you still have the power to make decisions for yourself? Do you still have the power to change the direction of your life? There are too many things to be grateful for, not to be grateful. Wake up and snap out of your depression.
Stay healthy — Eat healthy, live healthy, and be healthy. What are you eating regularly? How often do you eat fresh, raw veggies? How often are you drinking, eating out, and intaking sugar; are you consuming these things in moderate amounts or excessive amounts? How often are you working out? How often do you take a visit to the doctor (i.e., yearly physical and blood work) and dentist (i.e., bi-annual cleanings)? These are the basics for living healthy. And living healthy is one sure way to fight depression.
Self Care — When is the last time you did something for yourself? Do you take time daily for yourself (e.g., reading a book, taking a bath, speaking positive affirmations to yourself, pampering yourself, taking a quiet walk, meditating, stretching, allowing yourself to have fun, etc.)? Taking care of yourself increases the value you place on your life, your happiness, your well-being, and your sanity. There are ZERO negative consequences for investing in your self-care.
