As I was driving on the highway, I was observing all the construction work that was happening. Currently, more lanes are being added to the highway (which in my eyes is always a positive thing because this will mitigate congestive traffic). Though, I started to wonder where they were finding all of that space to build new lanes in the first place; sometimes it seems that space to build and expand comes from out of nowhere. And sometimes the creation of space is simply forced when the desire for change is impenetrable.
Sometimes, we feel like we have reached our limit as far as growth and potential; sometimes we feel like we can’t expand beyond our boundaries and break through our limitations, but just remember that construction is always happening; limitations are always being breached. As far as construction goes, people always find a way to build and expand, whether it means expanding horizontally or building vertically.
Though construction is usually a good thing, it also comes along with bewildering speed limits (for safety reasons, of course), orange cones disseminated everywhere, traffic, and just plain inconvenience all around. If you think about it though, this can be symbolic for the process of internal change and growing pains that we can often experience within ourselves.
Whenever we are developing into better human beings it can be inconvenient not only for us, but for everyone else around us too. Changing internally for the better often brings about: the demise of old and unhealthy habits, turbulence in some of your relationships, the end of certain relationships, and mental and emotional congestion. However, when the internal construction is complete, everything is better.
