Why People Fail At Achieving Their Goals
And why you will fail too if you don't create a new pattern
We could blame our results on our childhood, parents, bosses, health, relationships, friends, lack of ability, talent, or intelligence.
But there are only two valid reasons we fail at achieving our goals, and that is fear or the lack of unwillingness to improve our lives.
1. Fear
Procrastination, inconsistency, sabotage, lack of focus, and lack of drive all derive from fear.
For some of you, you might not be achieving your goals because you fear success.
But most people don’t ever achieve their goals because they fear failure. And they can’t seem to fathom how their tiny “insignificant” efforts will dent the progress of their massive and seemingly unattainable goals.
But tiny efforts compound.
Warren Buffett amassed most of his wealth after 50 years old, though he started investing when he was 11.
2. Lack Of Willingness
I heard a quote today, “Tears will get you empathy. Sweat will get you change.”
It’s persistence, action, and hard (but intelligent) effort that wins every time.
People who expect instant results will never experience success.
You must stay the course.
You must be willing to accept failure and get back up.
Those who get comfortable with failure are the ones who reach success because they’re not afraid of friction, barriers, rules, and an uphill journey.
People who like flat roads aren’t built for success.
But Did You Start?
Here’s the thing, though: if you never get started on your goals, you’ll never reach them.
Once you destroy fear and lack of willingness, you have to start.
Once you get started on your goals, for a long while, there will be no valid reasons to continue progressing because you likely won’t notice any results.
But that’s how everything starts.
You can’t see all the tree’s roots growing underground, but they’re doing the dirty work, out of sight and out of mind.
It’s like investing.
You have to stay at it for a while to see results.
But most people lack discipline; they’re dopamine addicts who only seek short-term pleasure. Like some little kids, they must have results now, or they become impatient and quit.
Summary
Once you break past fear and lack of willingness, the most challenging part of achieving any goal is getting started.
Until you start, you’re a dreamer. And dreamers never go anywhere.
Instead of talking about your goals, execute, and execute on them consistently.
If you look at any legendary athlete, musician, or business person, what is the common denominator?
Consistency.
That’s it.
There’s nothing fancy, secretive, or magic solution that will help you reach your goals.
It’s consistency and persistence; once you master this, the magic happens.
But you must show up first…every damn day.
You Don’t Want Change Until You Change
So the next time you say you want to change something in your life, stop lying.
You don’t want change or a different result until you commit to consistent execution.
Until then, you’ll live amongst the rest of the folks who experience mediocre results during their lifetimes.
If you’re tired of failing at your goals, create a new pattern. If you tend to give up eating healthy after the third day of a new diet, create a new pattern and continue going on that third day.
If you want to experience financial freedom, start saving, living below your means, and finding ways to increase your income.
It’s not hard, folks.
If you want a result, do the opposite of what you’ve been doing.
There’s no magic involved in achieving your goals.
