Short Story: “As they continued their travel, Jesus entered a village. A woman by the name of Martha welcomed him and made him feel quite at home. She had a sister, Mary, who sat before the Master, hanging on every word he said. But Martha was pulled away by all she had to do in the kitchen. Later, she stepped in, interrupting them. “Master, don’t you care that my sister has abandoned the kitchen to me? Tell her to lend me a hand.”
The Master said, “Martha, dear Martha, you’re fussing far too much and getting yourself worked up over nothing. One thing only is essential, and Mary has chosen it—it’s the main course, and won’t be taken from her.” Luke 10:38-42 MSG
How often do you get enveloped with…
the busyness of the day
your responsibilities
the cleaning
the grocery shopping
your job
inconveniences
the news
life
….that you forget what is most important: being of service to others, giving back, living in the moment, executing your life purpose, and cherishing the relationships you most value? Most of us do.
I love this short story because it reflects the lives of many people who are consistently stressed out over nothing—when you take time to reflect.
What have you been giving your focus to? What have you been feeling anxious about? Are the things we stress over and get anxiety about worth our time and energy? In most cases, no. Save your mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being for the people and things that genuinely matter to you. Today is the day to make this tweak.
